Changes for Solar Energy-Generating Snohomish PUD Customers

Changes for Solar Energy-Generating Snohomish PUD Customers
Washington State Solar Industry Update

Beginning July 1, 2015, Snohomish PUD customers who take part in the Renewable Energy Production Incentive Program will notice changes to how they receive their Production Incentive Credit. SnoPUD sent out the following notice to their customers, detailing the program changes:

Snohomish PUD Customer-Generators: Changes are Coming to Your Production Incentive Credits…and Your Bills!toparticle

The Renewable Energy Production Incentive Program is a Washington State program that the PUD administers for its (mostly solar) customer-generators. Customers earn up to $5,000 per year, based on energy generated. PUD is changing how it administers this incentive to align its business process with others in the state.

Beginning July 1, 2015, customers will no longer receive credit on an as-you-produce-the-energy basis. Instead, the total annual incentive will be calculated after the end of the fiscal year (June 30, 2016). The PUD will continue to show the renewable energy kilowatt-hours produced and metered each bill period.

Some customers who are used to paying NO PUD bills (because their incentive credits covered their regular energy charges) might be surprised to owe the PUD beginning late summer or fall of 2015. If this is a concern, customers might opt to keep any credit balance they have as of June 30, 2015 on an account to pay down future PUD charges. Look for more to come on these changes as the PUD approaches the end of this fiscal year and the start of the next one!
